I was born a nomad in Amdo, Far Eastern Tibet. Because I very much wanted the world to learn about Tibet and help my culture, I moved to Lhasa to start Road To Tibet Travel in 2007. For tours in Central Tibet (TAR). we meet your flight at Lhasa Gonggar Airport (LXA). Then, the first three-four days are always reserved for the Lhasa area so you can gradually acclimatize. Safe is better than sorry! In Eastern Tibet, we meet you in Chengdu with SUV(s) or at Yusu Batang Airport (YUS). Chengdu is a large and ancient city with lots to see. it is the main gateway to the Tibetan Plateau. Well-known for the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, it is also a UNESCO-named City of Gastronomy.

We can tell you about things to do in and around Chengdu, recommend hotels, make reservations, arrange airport transfers, purchase your flight or train tickets to Lhasa, and, most importantly, send our reliable friends to your hotel to answer your questions.

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) is a major hub airport receiving direct flights from all continents. The flight to Lhasa takes about 2:30 hours, covering 1,261 km/784 mi. Airlines serving Lhasa include Tibetan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Air China, and Chinese Eastern. We can easily tell you when is the best time to fly and recommend economical flights. You will receive e-tickets, and our agent in Lhasa is always available in case of changes. Let us know if we can help you.

We highly recommend using the expert services of a China Visa Agency rather than going in person to an Embassy or Consulate. The visa application does require careful attention to detail. You will need a passport valid for a few months beyond exiting Tibet, round-trip tickets, and hotel reservations. Once you have your China Visa, we can process your Tibet Travel Permit for the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR). A TTP is not needed to visit Kham and Amdo.
