Lhasa to Tsurphu Monastery & Yangpachen Nunnery— Drive & Trek, 10 Days

This 10-day tour from Tsurphu Monastery to Yangpachen Nunnery begins with 3-4 days in Lhasa to acclimatize. Then you'll drive to Tsurphu Monastery, the home of the famous Karmapa Lamas of Tibet.

During your time in Lhasa, you'll visit the famous Potala Palace and the Jokhang, Tibet's most sacred temple. In the Barkor, you'll mingle with Tibetans from all over the country. During that time, you can visit nearby Sera Monastery, where you can watch the monks debating Buddhist philosophy every day but Sunday.

Leaving Lhasa, the drive to Tsurphu Monastery, home of the famous Karmapa Lamas of Tibet, is about two hours. During the trek, you'll cross high passes, traverse rich pasture lands and meet nomadic communities. Finally, you'll see the magnificent glaciers of Nyenchen Thangla and arrive at Dorje Ling, the Yangpachen Nunnery.

This level of difficulty for this route is medium—perfect for those who love hiking but are not expert. You'll be accompanied by a Tibetan guide and hard-working yaks to transport your equipment and supplies.
