May 23: Special Ten-Day Group Journey—Lhasa to Mount Everest Base Camp

You will be met at the Lhasa airport or train station and will check-in to the Lhasa Rama Kharpo Hotel. (Trip Advisor #2 of 232 B&B's/Inns)
Visit the Jokhang Temple and Barkor in the morning. This is the spiritual center not only of Lhasa but of all Tibet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After lunch, visit Sera Monastery and watch the monks practice their debating skills.
Visit the Potala In the morning and in the afternoon, Norbulinka Palace, the summer residence of the Dalai Lamas. Also visit the Tibet Museum.
Drive south in a mini van, cross the Gampa La Pass and arrive at Yamdrok Yutso Turquoise Lake and the Karola glacier of Nyenchen Kamsang. After visiting the shores of this lake believed to be the life-force spirit of Tibet, continue on to Gyantse Town, which has retained its original Tibetan character. Visit Pelkhor Chode Monastery Complex and Kubum Stupa, both extraordinary examples of 15th century sacred architecture, murals and images. Then drive a bit further to the city of Shigatse (population just under 100,000) and check in to your hotel.
In Shigatse, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery complex, the seat of the Panchen Lamas then drive to Shegar via Sakya Monastery, where there are several buildings that survived the Cultural Revolution.
Arrive at Mount Everest Base Camp, visit Rongbuk Monastery and explore the landscape. Beautiful video.
After enjoying the sunrise over Mt. Everest, one of the greatest enjoyments in the world, drive back to Shigatse and your hotel.
Starting on the way back to Lhasa by another route, cross the Zhugula Pass (5,300 m) and arrive at Namtso Sky Lake. Explore the lake and check in to the Sheep Hotel.
A scenic drive through grasslands and valleys will bring you back to Lhasa and the Rama Kharpo Hotel.
Exit via the airport or train station.
