Amazing 14 day Kailash tour: Overall a superb trip. Organization from Woeser was great beforehand as I decided on the trip at quite a late stage. Only 4 of us on the trip which was a nice number, and our guide Pema couldn’t have been better. Not only a guide but a new friend, very friendly, optimistic, knowledgable and funny. A mention to the driver, always on time and in control. Highlights were Everest base camp, the Kailash 3 day trek which was challenging but rewarding and seeing Guge kingdom. Not really any problems, just a few lunch stops a bit pricey but that’s the same for everyone. Highly recommend ‘road to Tibet’, a very friendly welcome and a very caring send off, which was representative of the whole trip. 10/10.
First-rate travel service and an unforgettable experience: We are a family of five with three young children (11, 7, 3), and we have traveled the world. Tibet presented some challenges for us, but I was fortunate to find Woeser based on TripAdvisor reviews. I reached out to other Tibet travel agencies, but they were not accomodating to our itinerary (we only had two days to see Lhasa). Woeser was positive from the get-go and agreed that we would see everything on our itinerary. He assisted with our airfare and was very communicative and helpful about the permit process and any other questions I had. In Lhasa, our driver Purme was professional and friendly. Our guide, the very knowledgeable and Lhasa-local Tashi, was the best! Traveling with young children can be challeging, and throw in different cultures, food, altitude, and you don't know how they are going to react. Tashi was like their cool, fun uncle. He graciously carried our 3-year-old up the endless stairs of Potala Palace, and kept him engaged during our tour. He was also a fantastic photographer.
Fantastic Road to Tibet!: Road to Tibet's guides and drivers were so knowledgeable and caring. They supported us with care and we never felt rushed, older adults, whether it be hiking up to caves or walking up and down the ladders inside Stupas or Temples. We traveled with Road to Tibet as a group Pilgrimage for 12 days but also stayed six days longer with one guide and driver available to us. Prior and during even this extension Road to Tibet was immediately available to answer any questions regarding flights and permits. We felt we had friends in Tibet even before we arrived and now that we have left. We will always recommend Road to Tibet for long or short trips without any hesitation. Thank you Road to Tibet for a trip of a lifetime!
The best holidays!!! We have spent such a 9 wonderful days in Tibet. All have been perfect. When we decided to planed the trip all the conversation with Woeser were really quick and easy. He adapted all I asked for in such a easy way. Hi helped us in everything I asked him and he has been really kind with all the group. It is a Tibetan company so is the best way of know the Tibet not with foreign. Our guide Pema is such a nice person. He showed everything in the best way and always funny with us. He helped always in everything we asked. We couldn't have had a better guide. Now we have a good good friend. Our driver was really kind with us always. I recommended 100% Road to Tibet. You will received the best treatment you can imagine and you will know Tibet and Tibetan culture of the best way possible. Thank you Road to Tibet for making our such an unforgettable holidays.
14 days Tibet Tour (Lhasa, Shigatse, EBC, Kailash Kora, Manasarovar Lake, Guge Kingdom): Amazing tour of Tibet in 14 days. The journey was perfectly organized in every detail, from planning before departure, to obtaining of permits to entry in Tibet, from the management of accommodation and travel, to the visits of the most interesting attractions in the country. Thanks to Woeser for the organization, he always has promptly responded to our requests and worked to ensure that the trip was as we wanted it, thanks to our guide Jimpa, who accompanied us and took care of us at all times since we arrived in Tibet, proving to be absolutely prepared on every topic we have dealt with, especially with regards to matters Buddhism and the culture and history of Tibet and its people, thanks to the driver Pupu who allowed us to travel safe for about 4000 km in the country. A trip that we absolutely recommend, which allows you to enter the atmosphere of this incredible country. Among the most interesting points: - Tibetan culture and Buddhism, in Lhasa we visited Jokhang temple, Potala palace, Sera monastery, in Shigatse we visited Tashilunpo monastery (the latter absolutely not to be missed); - EBC with overnight at the Rongbuk monastery to not miss the sunset and the sunrise on the highest mountain in the world; - trekking around Mount Kailash: fortunately, the sun accompanied us during the 3 days of the Kora, so we could fully enjoy the landscapes along the way, reaching the 5600 m of Dolma-La pass and meet numerous pilgrims. The third day, which was the shortest, we also have collected a lot of plastic near the path: please, keep clean our planet! - Guge Kingdom, a beautiful and incredible palace built and carved out of a sandstone hill, a place not very known by tourists, far from the major attractions of Tibet, but which is absolutely worth a visit. Trip that we recommend to those with a spirit of adventure and adaptability, with a minimum of preparation physics and in good body conditions that allows you to carry out the trekking of the Kailash without too much suffering. Outside of most important cities, the accommodations are quite spartan and essential: but this is Tibet and is absolutely valid worthwhile to be able to really appreciate and live this extraordinary country. Road to Tibet absolutely recommended, he accompanied us on a journey that we will not forget. Thank you! Vichi and Luca
Amazing tour with Road to Tibet: We had an amazing time with Road to Tibet. We booked a private ten-day overland tour from Lhasa to the Nepal border. All communication beforehand was excellent - Woeser was very responsive and thorough, so we felt well prepared and informed. He was completely open to us designing our itinerary, while helping us be realistic about what was possible. Our guide Pema was great. He was good fun, made us feel very welcome and at ease, and he was really informative. We learned so much about Buddhism (he is a real expert!) and Tibet’s history. He was very keen to share and we got amazing insight and details from him. He also struck a really great balance in giving us freedom to explore when we could. He was always open to our suggestions too, including hiking up a mountain he’d never been up! We actually had to change our itinerary part-way through the tour because my partner was unwell. Both Woeser and Pema were incredibly flexible and caring, putting our health first. Woeser even brought us fruit and medicine. There was no pressure at all and they were so keen to make sure we still made the most of our time in Tibet (which we did). They helped us with suggestions and possible changes to the itinerary, but very much supported us to make the decisions. All hotels were comfortable, especially House of Shambhala in Lhasa, where the staff were very friendly and helpful. Tibet was fascinating and beautiful. We couldn’t recommend it or Road to Tibet more.
Amazing Kailash with Road to Tibet: We are all women group of 4 friends traveling to Tibet. Woeser has been very responsive and attentive to all our requirements since the first contact. We arrived one day late due to problem crossing the border from Nepal, they quickly manage the schedule change without any issues. In Tibet, our guide Pema has been really wonderful in taking care of us, he patiently answered all our questions, and we appreciated his in depth knowledge on buddhism and Tibet history. Our driver Chimi is very kind and polite, accommodating all our needs and helpful in every way. Woeser was also always available to support during our trip when we called even late at night. We have been in Tibet and Kailash many times, we are glad we chose to go with Road to Tibet, highly recommended.
Wonderful trip - Kora with Kailash: We choose 13 days trip all around Lhasa to Kailash mt, so we planned up to 10 mths before and contact with at least 2-3 land tours and finalize choosing Road to Tibet. Woeser has been kept his patience with our requirements and a lot of our questions also.
Even setting up everything sounds good but I'd never expected anything from the trip because it's the first time I'm in a such of long tour (I often go travel by myself, as a backpacker not a tourist). Until we across the border, I know I was wrong. I wrong because waiting for long time to have this wonderful trip, because spending too much time to find out the good land tour and because I had no enough time to send our appreciate to our funny, experience & nice tour guide - Tashi; kindly & skilled driver, Kydup and special thanks to Woeser. I'd in love with Tibet not only by charming sightseeing but also by Tibetan people, and I'll comeback. Whenever I come back to Tibet, I'll choose Road to Tibet to take care my group surely.
Lhasa to Nepalese border: I enjoyed the trip thoroughly, it was well planned and our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Usually, I avoid going on organized tours such as this one but because of the current requirements to travel in Tibet, you have to go with a guide. I was positively surprised by the experience and I think I got good value for money in the price range. Our schedule was flexible and there was nothing like the classic gift shop stops you sometimes get. Being in a small group enabled us to take everyone's wishes into consideration. The first days were spent in Lhasa with the last days being different stops on the way to the border. It is a lot of car involved, which should be expected based on the distances to be covered, but at least for me the hours spent in the car were an experience in themselves because of the amazing scenery.
Kham Travel: Woeser has been most helpful in recommending a great driver for my solo trip in Kham/Amdo. I've also engaged his services previous in Tibet. Highly reliable and trustworthy!
Great local company: We traveled so many countries so far and the most memorable tour we had with Road To Tibet. The people and culture touched our hearts and soul, we did 9 day tour and our guide is knowledgeable and rich in Buddhism. The driver is very skillful in the mountains and he drives without hesitation. We have learned a lot of Tibetan Buddhism and history, we will definitely come back to Lhasa and highly recommend this company for future travelers. Thank you Woeser and Road to Tibet for this great tour.
Awesome experience in Kham: Road to Tibet gave our group a great experience. The guides were always on top of things. They were genuine and knowledgeable and also fun. I highly recommend!
A very professional visit to Tibet: We traveled nearly all must have places in Tibet: Lhasa, Samye, Gyantse, Shigatse, Sakya, Everest camp: very professional tour at a competitive price.
Travel with peace of mind: Woeser and Road to Tibet were excellent! They were able to coordinate the logistics of the documents and tour for our group of 12 arriving from 4 different cities, at various different days/times with 9 different passports.Furthermore, Woeser's frequency of communication and flexibility was incredibly helpful. And of course, last, but certainly not least, was the tour guide assigned to us. Pema was an absolute savior. Not only was his knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism comprehensive (he studied in a monastery for 10 yrs), but his energy and enduring efforts to take care of our group with varying levels of altitude sickness was indispensable. On top of everything else, he is a kind, funny and dependable tour guide. Highly recommend Pema and Woeser's services!
DO THIS TOUR!: This tour company is fantastic. We (an American family of four with girls ages 7 and 9) were impressed with every detail of our visit in Tibet. Woeser was extremely helpful in planning a tour that met our wants and needs, and was responsive via email as well as attentive during our tour. Our guide Pema was absolutely wonderful: caring, knowledgeable and attentive, the kind of person whom you feel grateful to have met. I can say the very same for our driver. The hotels where we stayed in several cities/towns in Tibet were all great, as were the restaurants suggested by Pema throughout our stay. Go with this company!!
Amazing trip - great from planning to the very last day: Before settling for a tour agent, I was in contact with several well rated agencies. Certainly many of them would have delivered a great tour, but I am more than happy we finally settled for Road To Tibet, a genuinely Tibetan travel agency. When planning our 9 day private tour, Woeser was very responsive and answered to every little detail and questions in my mails immediately. The itineraries he suggested were smooth and slightly different from other agencies. Pricing very fair and terms a little more flexible than with other companies. We flew in from Shangri-La in Yunnan (at 3300 m), a great option if you want to minimize chances of altitude sickness. The downside was that our already delayed flight returned to Shangri-la after already circling above Lhasa airport- no explanations given. In the end we arrived with 9 hours delay in the night except for lunch time. I really appreciate Woeser's efforts who stayed in touch with us and who during the day rearranged our tour order and hotel bookings, so that it was still possible for us to visit all agreed places, despite loosing half a day.
So grateful for Road To Tibet!: As theGroup Leader for Sangha Journeys, I am grateful to Road To Tibet for facilitating a seamless and successful trip for our group of 18. During the trip the guides and bus driver were top of the line. They were caring, patient and always thinking ahead. Our 19 day itinerary had us going from Lhasa, Everest, Mt. Kailash then to Guge. They kept us on track and we were able to visit everything on our itinerary. For our Mt. Kailash kora, the 2 guides, Tashi & Tsewang, worked to keep us together and where extremely helpful to make sure we all succeeded and made it through the 3 day kora.
Always on the top of it: We recently spent 21 days in Tibet with our two teenagers (boys), visiting Lhasa, Gyantse, Everest, Guge, Lake Manasarovar, and trekking Tsurpu-Yangpatchen and Kailash. I would highly recommend Road to Tibet. Woeser welcomed us in Lhasa upon our arrival and at the end of our first trek. He always made sure everything was fine, and went the extra mile to show us stores where we could purchase unique Tibetan items based on our request. We chose to travel without a group, and had a guide and a driver for ourselves with a minivan. The guide, Tashi, was young, spoke very good English, and extremely knowledgeable on Buddhism and tibetan culture.
19 days tour of Lhasa, Yarlung, Gyantse, Everest, Kailash, Guge: Being in Tibet is breathtaking and sometime life-changing in more ways than one. But everything depends on your travel provider. I've been going to TAR since 2010 and know this from experience. Travelling with Road To Tibet has been a pleasure. Taking care of permits, itineraries, inter-cultural relationships and providing expertise in trekking and cultural history is the least of it. It's when something unexpected happens—a personal injury, road construction, bad weather, hotel reservations getting lost—that's when you must depend on your travel provider. There's not much you can do on your own. I'm grateful for Road to Tibet's responsiveness and problem-solving. I'm waiting to go back! Mirelile, Julu 2017
Road to Tibet - Experienced and Trustworthy: My husband and I including our 8 & 9 yr old children made a 10 day tour of Tibet from Lhasa to Everest Base camp. The organisation from Woeser (owner "Road to Tibet") was fantastic. Woeser was professional, helpful and quick to answer our many questions via email, he was flexible and ensured our children were well looked after. Our experienced tour guide, Tashi, had great English and extensive knowledge of Buddhism and Tibetan culture. We felt very safe having Tashi guide us through our journey alongside our driver, Quido whose years of driving experience were clearly demonstrated on the way to Everest Base Camp.
We booked the 8 day Lhasa / Gyantse / Shigatse / EBC trip in late December for a June departure. We bombarded Woeser with questions over the course of 6 months. He always answered promptly and clearly. Super responsive. In the end, no one else booked the trip, so it was just the 2 of us for the entire tour. I'm sure Woeser lost money on this, but he honored his commitment. Our guide, Tashi, was wonderful. He answered all of our questions patiently, and wanted to make sure we understood his explanations.
Throughout the months leading up to my wonderful solo trip across the Tibetan high plateau to Lhasa, my communications with Woeser were great. He answered whatever questions I had with advice, even in those areas that Road to Tibet was not responsible for. For first time travelers to this part of the world, and with so many travel restrictions in place, his honest counsel reassured me that I had an honest guide and adviser across the globe, and he helped me create an itinerary that matched exactly what I was looking for: history, monasteries and high altitude trekking. And when there was a glitch at the Beijing West Train Station that may have caused me to miss my only train west, he provided guidance over the phone...even though he was not my booking agent for that portion of the trip. That was impressive to me, in the midst of a noisy train station.
When we decided to travel to Tibet we realised that we had to go through a travel agency. Not knowing where to start we looked over a lot of reviews on the internet. We wanted a Tibetan agency and “The Road To Tibet” stood out. If you want the short version – We are very glad that we did. Contact was regular, an itinerary was planned in consultation, everything that was promised was delivered and much, much more. Our Tibetan guide and driver were a delight to be with, the accommodation was wonderful and Woeser was incredibly helpful, making changes as we needed to, once we were there. Our accommodation was upgraded because of the major street works going on and we were not asked to pay the difference although we would have been more than willing.
I had the pleasure of travelling with Woeser from Road To Tibet Travel Service in August 2012. At first I was a little daunted about choosing an agency on line as there are so many to choose from and all offer very similar packages. I knew that I wanted to support the Tibetan people and chose a Tibetan owned and operated agency. After reading great reviews about Woeser on Lonely Planet & other forums I added him to my list (of 3 other agencies) then started making enquiries.
I’d like to make the review the Road to Tibet Agency and want to share what we received, in summary everything was perfect. We are the group of 10 Russians and Ukrainians that decided to travel to Tibet, traveled from 27th April to 13th May, started from Beijing by train, soft sleepers long but great view especially after Xining. Woeser Phel, he is the owner of the agency, was amazing at helping me plan our trip to Tibet. I have never booked a trip through a travel agency before and he made this so easy despite my annoying 1000 letters.
We had a very nice visit organized by Woeser at Road to Tibet, with an excellent and knowledgeable (as well as very nice!) guide, Lhamo, and a very patient driver who had to put up with foreigners not used to steep mountain roads ... Lhamo, our driver and Woeser, all three of them, just know so much about Tibetan culture and also about how visitors acclimate to high altitudes and Tibet in general. Train tickets are very complicated to get and Woeser is the only one who was able to get us some train tickets to travel over to Tibet (and it is highly advisable to go by train to avoid sudden altitude exposure).
Four of us made a 13-day trip in Tibet organized by Woeser from Road to Tibet in August. Woeser, our guide, Wangdu and driver Namjyal ensured we had a nice and unforgettable experience when we were in Tibet.
Woeser replies were quick and patient even when we asked plenty of questions. Through email, he was able to make us feel honorable and reliable. We faced air-ticket and train ticket problems due to peak season in August, Woeser managed to help us to sort it out.
Woeser organized our recent trip to Tibet 29/07/2013-05/08/2013, and I recommend him and his Road to Tibet Travel Service highly to anyone embarking on a similar adventure. First he communicated very well by email helping us obtain the indispensable government permits and customize our ambitious Lhasa/EBC Kathmandu vacation plan. Second, he was flexible in making adjustments as needed (more below) and provided us a very good value for our money. We enjoyed a very special trip to a place that is still authentic and exotic.
We are a group of 21 people from Vietnam who long ago wanted to set foot on Tibet and EBC. We started looking around for a reliable tour operator since December 2013 and after a while decided to settle with Road to Tibet. Woeser, the owner of the company, was so helpful and swift in replying our emails in addition to being clear and straight forward. A 10-day itinerary was quickly outlined and agreed with us, followed by agreements on transportation, accommodation, Tibet permits, etc.
We are lucky to have Tsewang as our guide, she speaks very good English and very knowledgeable in Tibetan culture. Her kindness touches our hearts, and her actions bonded our friendship. Also we are glad to have ChunDa as our driver, he does not speak English but he is quite a funny person. Our road trip can never be smoother without his skillful maneuvering of the bumpy roads & traffics and most importantly, he drives safely.
