Amazing trip - great from planning to the very last day: Before settling for a tour agent, I was in contact with several well rated agencies. Certainly many of them would have delivered a great tour, but I am more than happy we finally settled for Road To Tibet, a genuinely Tibetan travel agency. When planning our 9 day private tour, Woeser was very responsive and answered to every little detail and questions in my mails immediately. The itineraries he suggested were smooth and slightly different from other agencies. Pricing very fair and terms a little more flexible than with other companies. We flew in from Shangri-La in Yunnan (at 3300 m), a great option if you want to minimize chances of altitude sickness. The downside was that our already delayed flight returned to Shangri-la after already circling above Lhasa airport- no explanations given. In the end we arrived with 9 hours delay in the night except for lunch time. I really appreciate Woeser's efforts who stayed in touch with us and who during the day rearranged our tour order and hotel bookings, so that it was still possible for us to visit all agreed places, despite loosing half a day.
So grateful for Road To Tibet!: As theGroup Leader for Sangha Journeys, I am grateful to Road To Tibet for facilitating a seamless and successful trip for our group of 18. During the trip the guides and bus driver were top of the line. They were caring, patient and always thinking ahead. Our 19 day itinerary had us going from Lhasa, Everest, Mt. Kailash then to Guge. They kept us on track and we were able to visit everything on our itinerary. For our Mt. Kailash kora, the 2 guides, Tashi & Tsewang, worked to keep us together and where extremely helpful to make sure we all succeeded and made it through the 3 day kora.
Always on the top of it: We recently spent 21 days in Tibet with our two teenagers (boys), visiting Lhasa, Gyantse, Everest, Guge, Lake Manasarovar, and trekking Tsurpu-Yangpatchen and Kailash. I would highly recommend Road to Tibet. Woeser welcomed us in Lhasa upon our arrival and at the end of our first trek. He always made sure everything was fine, and went the extra mile to show us stores where we could purchase unique Tibetan items based on our request. We chose to travel without a group, and had a guide and a driver for ourselves with a minivan. The guide, Tashi, was young, spoke very good English, and extremely knowledgeable on Buddhism and tibetan culture.
19 days tour of Lhasa, Yarlung, Gyantse, Everest, Kailash, Guge: Being in Tibet is breathtaking and sometime life-changing in more ways than one. But everything depends on your travel provider. I've been going to TAR since 2010 and know this from experience. Travelling with Road To Tibet has been a pleasure. Taking care of permits, itineraries, inter-cultural relationships and providing expertise in trekking and cultural history is the least of it. It's when something unexpected happens—a personal injury, road construction, bad weather, hotel reservations getting lost—that's when you must depend on your travel provider. There's not much you can do on your own. I'm grateful for Road to Tibet's responsiveness and problem-solving. I'm waiting to go back! Mirelile, Julu 2017
Road to Tibet - Experienced and Trustworthy: My husband and I including our 8 & 9 yr old children made a 10 day tour of Tibet from Lhasa to Everest Base camp. The organisation from Woeser (owner "Road to Tibet") was fantastic. Woeser was professional, helpful and quick to answer our many questions via email, he was flexible and ensured our children were well looked after. Our experienced tour guide, Tashi, had great English and extensive knowledge of Buddhism and Tibetan culture. We felt very safe having Tashi guide us through our journey alongside our driver, Quido whose years of driving experience were clearly demonstrated on the way to Everest Base Camp.
We booked the 8 day Lhasa / Gyantse / Shigatse / EBC trip in late December for a June departure. We bombarded Woeser with questions over the course of 6 months. He always answered promptly and clearly. Super responsive. In the end, no one else booked the trip, so it was just the 2 of us for the entire tour. I'm sure Woeser lost money on this, but he honored his commitment. Our guide, Tashi, was wonderful. He answered all of our questions patiently, and wanted to make sure we understood his explanations.
Throughout the months leading up to my wonderful solo trip across the Tibetan high plateau to Lhasa, my communications with Woeser were great. He answered whatever questions I had with advice, even in those areas that Road to Tibet was not responsible for. For first time travelers to this part of the world, and with so many travel restrictions in place, his honest counsel reassured me that I had an honest guide and adviser across the globe, and he helped me create an itinerary that matched exactly what I was looking for: history, monasteries and high altitude trekking. And when there was a glitch at the Beijing West Train Station that may have caused me to miss my only train west, he provided guidance over the phone...even though he was not my booking agent for that portion of the trip. That was impressive to me, in the midst of a noisy train station.
When we decided to travel to Tibet we realised that we had to go through a travel agency. Not knowing where to start we looked over a lot of reviews on the internet. We wanted a Tibetan agency and “The Road To Tibet” stood out. If you want the short version – We are very glad that we did. Contact was regular, an itinerary was planned in consultation, everything that was promised was delivered and much, much more. Our Tibetan guide and driver were a delight to be with, the accommodation was wonderful and Woeser was incredibly helpful, making changes as we needed to, once we were there. Our accommodation was upgraded because of the major street works going on and we were not asked to pay the difference although we would have been more than willing.
I had the pleasure of travelling with Woeser from Road To Tibet Travel Service in August 2012. At first I was a little daunted about choosing an agency on line as there are so many to choose from and all offer very similar packages. I knew that I wanted to support the Tibetan people and chose a Tibetan owned and operated agency. After reading great reviews about Woeser on Lonely Planet & other forums I added him to my list (of 3 other agencies) then started making enquiries.
I’d like to make the review the Road to Tibet Agency and want to share what we received, in summary everything was perfect. We are the group of 10 Russians and Ukrainians that decided to travel to Tibet, traveled from 27th April to 13th May, started from Beijing by train, soft sleepers long but great view especially after Xining. Woeser Phel, he is the owner of the agency, was amazing at helping me plan our trip to Tibet. I have never booked a trip through a travel agency before and he made this so easy despite my annoying 1000 letters.
We had a very nice visit organized by Woeser at Road to Tibet, with an excellent and knowledgeable (as well as very nice!) guide, Lhamo, and a very patient driver who had to put up with foreigners not used to steep mountain roads ... Lhamo, our driver and Woeser, all three of them, just know so much about Tibetan culture and also about how visitors acclimate to high altitudes and Tibet in general. Train tickets are very complicated to get and Woeser is the only one who was able to get us some train tickets to travel over to Tibet (and it is highly advisable to go by train to avoid sudden altitude exposure).
Four of us made a 13-day trip in Tibet organized by Woeser from Road to Tibet in August. Woeser, our guide, Wangdu and driver Namjyal ensured we had a nice and unforgettable experience when we were in Tibet.
Woeser replies were quick and patient even when we asked plenty of questions. Through email, he was able to make us feel honorable and reliable. We faced air-ticket and train ticket problems due to peak season in August, Woeser managed to help us to sort it out.
Woeser organized our recent trip to Tibet 29/07/2013-05/08/2013, and I recommend him and his Road to Tibet Travel Service highly to anyone embarking on a similar adventure. First he communicated very well by email helping us obtain the indispensable government permits and customize our ambitious Lhasa/EBC Kathmandu vacation plan. Second, he was flexible in making adjustments as needed (more below) and provided us a very good value for our money. We enjoyed a very special trip to a place that is still authentic and exotic.
We are a group of 21 people from Vietnam who long ago wanted to set foot on Tibet and EBC. We started looking around for a reliable tour operator since December 2013 and after a while decided to settle with Road to Tibet. Woeser, the owner of the company, was so helpful and swift in replying our emails in addition to being clear and straight forward. A 10-day itinerary was quickly outlined and agreed with us, followed by agreements on transportation, accommodation, Tibet permits, etc.
We are lucky to have Tsewang as our guide, she speaks very good English and very knowledgeable in Tibetan culture. Her kindness touches our hearts, and her actions bonded our friendship. Also we are glad to have ChunDa as our driver, he does not speak English but he is quite a funny person. Our road trip can never be smoother without his skillful maneuvering of the bumpy roads & traffics and most importantly, he drives safely.
Both Valerie and I are so thankful that we chose Road To Tibet for our tour of Lhasa and Everest Base Camp. Your service and attention to our needs was truly exceptional. Also commend Samdup for his professional demeanor, he looked after our safety and well being and was very knowledgeable as a guide.
I would also like to say that Cheme is a very good, safe driver and the Landcruiser you provided for our use is a very comfortable, well maintained vehicle. I cannot understate the importance of a good driver and well maintained vehicle especially on those mountain roads. At no time did we feel unsafe.
